Lip-Smacking Meats on a Different Level
The Original Roy Hutchins BBQ
When Zack Hutchins and his family opened The Original Roy Hutchins BBQ in Trophy Club on June 9, it was obvious that nothing would keep their loyal and hungry customers from lining up at the front door.
“The highway exit right before us was shut down three days before we opened,” Zack said with a laugh. “It was a massive pain, and I honestly thought that would hurt business. But as my grandfather Roy reminded me, ‘If it’s good food, the customers will parachute in if they have to.’ Clearly, he was right. I’m driving by the restaurant right now, and the parking lot is completely full.”
He added, “Business has been great so far, and I think a lot of that is because we are on a different level than your standard BBQ joint.”
Rated DFW’s top-ranked BBQ, The Original Roy Hutchins BBQ is the latest addition to the Hutchins family’s collection of BBQ joints. Their lip-smacking recipes became instant crowd favorites in 1978 with Roy’s Smokehouse in Princeton, Texas. Fast forward to today, and that legacy includes Hutchins BBQ in McKinney and Hutchins BBQ and Catering Company in Frisco.
Roy and his son, Wes, are the founders, and Zack is Roy’s grandson and the new GM at the separate location in Trophy Club.
The authentic Texas experience of eating BBQ the Hutchins way is one you won’t forget. They only sell prime meats, and the smokers, fired by pecan wood, are on active duty day and night. This allows them to sport a menu that includes everything from brisket bathed in a rich, homemade sauce to pulled pork, jalapeño cheddar sausage, ribs, burnt ends, and turkey.
Then there are sides for days — baked beans, mac & cheese, coleslaw, dirty rice, mashed potatoes, and more. And don’t forget about their Texas Twinkies — bacon-wrapped jalapeños filled with cream cheese and smoked brisket.
“Roy is the founder — it’s his recipe and brand, and that’s what helps us stand out,” Zack said. “We are on a different level than standard BBQ joints, and our customers can tell. We even do catering and have an on-site deli. It’s definitely an experience eating barbecue here. It’s our family legacy, and we take a lot of pride in it.”
