A Home Away From Home
If your eyes are the window to your soul, then your mouth is a door to your general health. As any healthcare professional will tell you, good dental health is essential to the whole body’s well-being.
For all your orthodontic needs, look no further than Dr. David Dyer and his practice, Argyle Orthodontics.
After graduating from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio Dental School, Dr. Dyer joined the Navy, serving military members and their families as a general dentist in Twentynine Palms, California. He was selected by the US Navy to specialize in orthodontics and completed an additional two-year residency at the University of Texas Health in Houston. He served US Sailors, US Marines, and their families as an orthodontist in Okinawa, Japan, and Portsmouth, Virginia.
After 13 years of active-duty service, Dr. Dyer concluded his distinguished naval career, and the Dyer family returned home to Argyle. In 2017, Dr. Dyer bought the Argyle practice from his father when he retired.
Dr. Dyer and his team at Argyle Orthodontics are passionate about serving their community’s oral health through orthodontic treatment.
“We combine the old-fashioned feel of personal service and the highest level of care with the latest state-of-the-art technology in all aspects of orthodontic treatment,” Dr. Dyer said.
An example of this is the usage of digital scanners, clear aligners, 3D printed appliances, self-ligating brackets, and ultra-flexible thermal activated arch-wires.
One of the many things that sets Argyle Orthodontics apart from other practices is their customized treatment plans for their patients.
“A lot of practices can get so automated or cookie-cutter with plans that they follow for everyone,” Dr. Dyer said. “I really take the time and effort to ensure every patient gets a specific and customized treatment made with all aspects taken into account for every individual patient.”
A testament to their quality of care is Argyle Orthodontics’ examination of young patients, which gives them the opportunity to focus on the proper development of the child’s upper and lower jaws, face, airways, and teeth. As 90% of facial growth is achieved by age 12, it’s ideal that children be examined by age 6 or 7 (but it’s never too late to achieve a healthy smile.)
“Early orthodontic treatment, or ‘Phase I treatment’ can be one of the most valuable services that we provide for our patients.” Dr. Dyer said. “When we identify and diagnose young patients who have issues not only with their teeth but perhaps with the growth and development of their jaws, face, and airway, this can have a tremendous positive impact on their appearance and overall health.”
Most Phase I treatments typically include various types of expanders, as well as braces. Benefits of Phase I treatment include increasing the width of narrow jaws, guiding erupting teeth into a more favorable position, reducing the risk of impaction of permanent teeth, eliminating the need for extraction of permanent teeth, correcting habits such as thumb-sucking, improving airway space and night-time breathing, improving self-esteem and confidence, and more.
But Argyle Orthodontics doesn’t just treat young children. Dr. Dyer provides orthodontic services to patients of all ages.
“We treat many adult patients with Invisalign clear aligners, and some with braces, too,” Dr. Dyer said. “A common issue that we treat in a number of our adult patients is TMJ problems.”
TMJ disorders can cause pain in the jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement, as well as headaches, neck pain, and a variety of other symptoms.
Dr. Dyer is very proud of his team and said they each bring a unique set of talents, skills, and abilities to the practice. All of the team members at Argyle Orthodontics — Dr. Dyer included — are parents themselves so they understand parents’ concerns when it comes to their child’s health.
This year, Argyle Orthodontics is celebrating Lesanne Jordan’s 30th year with the practice. Lesanne worked for Dr. Dyer’s father as a treatment coordinator and continued with Dr. Dyer when he took over the practice six years ago.
“30 years is a very long time to stay with an organization,” Dr. Dyer said. “Lesanne is one of a kind, and she treats every patient like part of her family. Everyone loves her.”
Argyle Orthodontics prides itself on treating every patient as they treat their loved ones. When you need to ensure the best orthodontic care for yourself or your family, trust Argyle Orthodontics.
