Mopping Up the Middle Man

Maja Commercial Janitorial Services

From the owner’s backstory to how he runs his business, everything about Maja Janitorial Services truly is unique.

The Justin-based company Austin Weedor re-launched in 2020 specializes in keeping business offices, workspaces, common areas, and facilities clean in northwest Tarrant, Denton, and Wise counties and beyond. Its services include healthcare, post-construction and emergency office cleanings, power and window washings, warehouse industrial/manufacturing janitorial, waste removal, plus move-in/move-out, and carpet cleanings.

Originally started in 2009, the company was on pause for 11 years while Weedor served his adopted country in the U.S. Army. We say adopted because his story starts in the West African country of Liberia, from where he and his family fled to the United States in the 1990s by way of Guinea as political asylum refugees. Austin was just 19 years old when he followed other relatives to Texas.

Once here, Weedor initially worked as a janitor for the HEB school district. Later, he was in warehousing, then moved to Wichita Falls to earn bachelor’s (2006) and master’s (2008) degrees in Management Information Systems at Midwest State University. Following graduation, he put his technology degrees to good use as a database analyst for various companies. He and his wife Dianna also started Maja Janitorial Services – a play on words
based on their three children’s names – on a whim.

“I did it as a joke,” he said. ‘“What if I started a janitorial company? Maybe I’ll be a millionaire janitor one day.’”

Doing everything by himself, he quickly picked up his first two clients – one in Justin, the other in the Argyle Police Department. But then his lifelong dream to be in the military came calling.

Following in the footsteps of brothers who served in the Air Force and Navy, he enlisted in the Army in 2011. He was on active duty for about three years, including a deployment to Afghanistan in 2013-14. After two years recovering from injuries suffered there, he joined the Texas Army National Guard Cyber Protection Team — a specialized unit that focuses
on defending the United States’ critical cyber infrastructure.

He also returned to his information technology career as a business intelligence developer until 2020, when he decided to refocus on Maja Janitorial. He started part-time while still in the Guard and full-time since his separation last year.

Since then, he’s focused on making Maja the best it can be. Today, the company assists clients, including warehouses, churches, large industrial facilities, small offices, and more. For some, that means visiting daily. For others, it can be weekly, monthly, or only one time. No matter how often Maja services its clients, it delivers quality and professionalism, befitting someone like Weedor, who has fought for his and our freedoms.

“We get to serve the community. This is my home,” he said. “We’re part of the community. Most of the businesses around here serve us, too. So, we want to bring a different experience to the community. We have a very good team and are always on the lookout for new team members.”

Each of Maja’s staff is fully trained and certified by the International Janitorial Cleaning Services Association. The company also features a quality control program to address client needs. Maja Janitorial also is a member of the Metroport Chamber of Commerce.

“I treat our facilities like they are my own,” Weedor said. “Other companies come in and out, but for me, it’s personal. I want to go to work in my own office and make sure it is clean and healthy, just like my clients. We also bring technological aspects that we use to communicate with our customers.

“I am readily available to my clients. There is no middleman. They have nobody
to contact but myself. That’s what sets
us apart.

“We are not just a janitorial company for your office. We are a janitorial company that wants to partner with your office. We want to make sure we keep things clean for your staff members.

“Everybody on our team is basically an ambassador for our clients. Would you want someone in your house every day to do this stuff? The answer is yes — if you do it right. We do it right for our clients.”
