Bobbie Mitchell’s leadership career began in 1985 when she decided to serve her community in
City Government after her daughter left for college. Her appointments to the Lewisville Board of
Adjustment and later to the Planning and Zoning Commission marked the beginning of her
remarkable career in public service. After five years on the City Boards, Bobbie ran for
Lewisville City Council, where she served for a decade, including seven years as Mayor.
However, her sense of responsibility extended beyond the city, leading her to step down as
Mayor and join County Government. In 2000, she was elected to the Denton County
Commissioner Court, a position she still holds today.
Bobbie has drawn inspiration from various sources, one of whom is Ann Pomykal, a former
Mayor of Lewisville. Ann’s dedication to community service and her involvement with nonprofits,
especially United Way, served as a guiding light for Bobbie.
Bobie encourages young women aspiring to leadership roles to seek guidance from God
through prayer and also to be well-informed about their chosen profession. Bobbie stresses the
importance of going the extra mile, learning from established leaders, and not hesitating to ask
questions. Trusting in God’s guidance and treating others with respect and kindness are also
crucial elements of leadership.
In Bobbie’s view, successful leadership is characterized by a multitude of qualities, including
integrity, effective communication, perseverance, commitment, focus, credibility, humility,
courage, gratitude, inspiration, authenticity, passion, adaptivity, and collaboration, among
others.
To manage stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance, Bobbie relies on prayer and open
communication with her family and friends. She understands the significance of self-care and
ensures she takes care of her physical and mental well-being. Active involvement in church,
exercise, and working on crossword puzzles provides her with much-needed relaxation and
rejuvenation.
Bobbie Mitchell is deeply passionate about her work as County Commissioner Precinct Three,
as it allows her to create a positive impact in the lives of others. Her unwavering dedication to
her community, along with her leadership skills and commitment to integrity, make her a shining
example for aspiring leaders. With humility and determination, Bobbie continues to make a
significant difference in Denton County, leaving a lasting legacy of service and compassion.
