Journey to Dream Awarded Inaugural Atria Impact Award

Journey to Dream is an organization that touches the hearts and lives of so many students in the local communities of Denton County. It goes without saying that Journey to Dream is extremely deserving of recognition and praise. Shelly Dodge, Financial Advisor and owner of Visionary Financial Group, recognized this and was led to nominate Journey to Dream for this year’s Inaugural Atria Impact Award.

The Inaugural Atria Impact Award was created for the Financial Advisors and employees associated with Shelly’s brokerage firm to nominate a local charity with which they are personally involved in. This prestigious award is dedicated to amplifying the charitable work of financial professionals and employees throughout the Atria family. The Impact award allows Atria to acknowledge the meaningful and selfless work between the non-profit and the Financial Advisor to be able to expand its reach by making a charitable contribution to the organization on behalf of the
Financial Advisor.

This year there were four charities that were selected to each receive $5,000. Three of the charities were nominated by Financial Advisors while the fourth was nominated by employees. For the first year of the award, there were 143 non-profits nominated between 2,500 Financial Advisors and 500 employees. The four winners were selected in a blind nomination process.

For the non-profit to qualify for the Inaugural Atria Impact Award, the Financial Advisor needed to provide information about the organization describing their charity and its mission, the Advisor’s involvement with that charity, the significance of the organization, and finally, why the Financial Advisor chose that non-profit.

Among the four winners of the award was Journey to Dream. Journey to Dream holds a very special place in Shelly’s heart for multiple reasons. In the past, Shelly has chaired galas and served on Journey to Dream’s board of directors. She is also a founding donor of Kyle’s Place, which is Denton County’s only homeless teen shelter. In addition, during Shelly’s presidency of the Cross Timbers Rotary Club, the club recently awarded Journey to Dream a grant which allowed for some much-needed repairs and updates to Kyle’s Place.

Journey to Dream has proven to be deserving of this generous award and the support of our county and volunteers. Congratulations on a job well done!
