Flower Mound’s Finest

Each year, Flower Mound presents the Outstanding Citizenship Award to people who made a significant, selfless impact within their direct community. On December 5, 2022, Mayor Derek France and Town Council presented awards to three categories: Individual, Youth, and Group.

The individual category winner is Jeff Fisher, who was the primary motivator in bringing the Miracle League of North Texas to Flower Mound. Miracle League eliminates the obstacles that children with mental and/or physical disabilities may face on a baseball field, allowing them to freely experience the joy of a ballgame. The Flower Mound league has more than doubled in size since its inaugural season in the fall of 2021.

Johan David Ahuja is the winner of the youth category. Over the past two years, he collected more than 55 bicycles and raised over $2,500 in donations for a bike drive for the Chosen Ones foster agency. He also started a buddy-based mentoring program at Flower Mound High School, called Connections, after recognizing incoming students transitioning to high school were in need of support. Connections pairs upperclassmen with lowerclassmen to help them manage their schedules, pick classes, prepare for standardized testing, find tutors, and explore extracurricular activities.

Finally, this year’s group winner is Flower Mound Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (FMCPAAA). Its volunteers spend thousands of hours attending community programs and events, such as the Tree Lighting Ceremony, Dorothy’s Dash, Neighborhood Watch, and FMPD’s car-seat safety checks.

Each recipient will be added to the perennial plaque on display at Town Hall, receive an engraved brick at the Flower Mound Library, and a feature on Flower Mound’s community website. Additionally, the awardee of the individual spotlight receives a one-year membership to the Community Activity Center, a VIP pass to Independence Fest, and carious invitations to community events.

Thank you, Jeff, Johan, and FMCPAAA, for all your hard work and contributions to making our community an even better place!
