Maryl Lorencz, the Mayor Pro-Tem of Northlake, embodies the spirit of service and leadership. Growing up in a family dedicated to serving the community, Maryl was inspired by her father, a firefighter and later a Mayor, who instilled in her the importance of contributing positively to society. This early exposure to local government set the foundation for her
lifelong commitment to public service.

With over 20 years as a teacher, Maryl has always been a pillar of support and guidance for her students. Her move to Northlake marked the beginning of her involvement in local government, encouraged by former Mayor David Rettig and current Mayor Brian Montini. 

Maryl’s dedication and leadership skills quickly became evident as she served on the Northlake Planning and Zoning Commission before being elected to the Town Council and subsequently voted in as Mayor Pro-Tem.

Maryl’s journey is a testament to the influence and support of strong women. Her entrepreneurial mother, inspiring colleagues, and supportive friends and neighbors have all played significant roles in her success. She finds inspiration in the community of women around her, including fellow Council Member Alex Holmes, who shares her passion for service and family.

As a wife and mother of two boys, Maryl believes in leading by example. 

Her advice to young women aspiring to be leaders is to pursue their dreams fearlessly and to surround themselves with supportive and challenging individuals. 

She emphasizes the importance of listening, teamwork, and the selfless pursuit of good, echoing Ronald Reagan’s words, “There is no limit to the amount of good you can do if you don’t care who gets the credit.”

Balancing her demanding roles, Maryl finds solace in her family. Watching her boys play sports and spending quality time with loved ones helps her maintain a healthy work-life balance. 

Her new role as a teacher at Hilltop Elementary in Argyle ISD, where her boys also study, adds another layer of fulfillment to her life.

Maryl Lorencz’s story is one of dedication, community, and unwavering support for those around her. Her leadership in Northlake is marked by compassion and a relentless drive to make a positive impact.
