Women of Influence – Dr. Lori Rapp

Dr. Lori Rapp – Lewisville ISD Superintendent

Dedicating Her Entire Career to Lewisville ISD

Lori Rapp, the Superintendent of Schools for Lewisville Independent School District (LISD), has carved a remarkable path in education, inspired by her 3rd-grade teacher, Mrs. Robertson. During a challenging period when Lori’s father left her family, Mrs. Robertson’s guidance and support were pivotal in keeping her academically focused. Witnessing the profound impact of dedicated educators, Lori felt a strong calling to join the educational field.

After graduating from Texas Tech University in 1996, Lori began her career as a math teacher at The Colony High School within LISD. Her passion for education led her to pursue a Master’s degree at Texas Woman’s University, subsequently taking on a district-wide role supporting the mathematics curriculum. This position allowed her to see firsthand the significant influence that educational opportunities can have.

Lori’s leadership potential was recognized, and she was appointed Chief Learning and Teaching Officer by then-Superintendent Dr. Kevin Rogers. Continuing her educational journey, Lori earned a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Dallas Baptist University, along with her Superintendent certification.

Throughout her career, Lori has been inspired by various female leaders within LISD and the broader community. However, her ultimate inspiration comes from her mother, who instilled in her the values of faith, hard work, and a positive attitude. Her 3rd-grade teacher also played a crucial role, teaching her the importance of understanding and connecting with students’ stories.

For young women aspiring to leadership, Lori advises embracing authenticity. Being true to oneself while developing leadership skills and seizing opportunities is crucial. She also encourages young women to avoid striving for perfection in all areas, as it can lead to unnecessary stress.

As a successful leader, Lori believes that genuine care and concern for others are fundamental qualities. Building relationships based on trust and being a good listener are key to serving others effectively. She resonates with Maya Angelou’s words about the lasting impact of how leaders make others feel. Lori embodies continual learning, personal growth, and integrity in her leadership approach.

To manage stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance, Lori stays connected to her sources of joy and meaning: her faith, family, and the LISD community. By staying true to her calling and purpose, she remains rejuvenated and energized. Lori prioritizes spending time in classrooms, on campuses, and at community events, engaging with students, staff, and the community.

Having dedicated her entire career to LISD, Lori feels honored to serve as the district’s first female Superintendent. She aspires to be a role model for girls, including her own daughters, encouraging them to pursue their goals and leadership opportunities.

In her current role, Lori’s primary focus is on community engagement. Under her leadership, LISD’s vision centers on student learning, student experience, resource stewardship, and community involvement. She believes that strong community connections positively impact public education. By uniting as One LISD, supporting staff and schools, and actively involving the community in various educational endeavors, Lori aims to create a nurturing environment where students can thrive and excel.
