The racehorse White Abarrio has spent much of his career disproving the racing world’s assumptions. In a sport defined by pedigree, power, and youth, the pale gray Thoroughbred has blazed his own trail, forcing people to take notice.
Throughout his career, White Abarrio has been dismissed, questioned, and underestimated more than once, yet his record tells a far different tale. For Flower Mound owners Clint and Danielle Cornett, this success story has made White Abarrio more than a champion. It has made him a symbol of resilience.
“He is the thing dreams are made of,” Danielle said. “He never got the credit he deserved.”
Early Signs of Greatness
The Cornetts always dreamed of getting into horse racing and tinkered with modest success over the years. Their fortunes changed when they discovered White Abarrio. From the very first race, her husband, Clint, and his brother, Mark, knew there was something very special about him. In September 2021, Mark was on hand to watch White Abarrio race at Gulfstream Park. After being tossed between owners, White Abarrio flew under the radar as a 12-1 underdog. Trailing early in the race, he quickly closed the gap. Down the stretch, he daringly bolted between the leaders, took the lead, and won the race by six and a half lengths. After the race, the Cornetts made a private bid to buy the horse.
White Abarrio is now 7 years old, an age when many racehorses are considered to be well past their prime. In most cases, the racing world begins to look elsewhere, focused on younger runners with fresher legs and bigger upside. But White Abarrio has continued to defy the usual timeline. Instead of fading, he has remained relevant at the highest levels of the sport, proving that experience, maturity, and determination can still carry a horse to the winner’s circle.
Major Wins That Defined His Career
White Abarrio’s career has been defined by steady progression, memorable victories, and a growing reputation for rising to the occasion. His resume already includes 11 wins, including the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic, one of the sport’s most prestigious races. He also delivered in the 2023 Whitney Stakes, the 2022 Florida Derby, and the 2025 Pegasus World Cup, placing him among the best horses of his generation.
Still, even after those victories, skepticism lingered. That became especially apparent heading into the Oaklawn Handicap in April 2026 when White Abarrio was largely overlooked despite his proven track record. Yet he answered the doubters by beating the reigning Kentucky Derby winner and Horse of the Year, Sovereignty, and the Preakness winner, Journalism, reminding the racing world that he is not to be underestimated.
“In the moment, your heart can’t stop beating,” Danielle said. “There’s no words to describe it.”

“It’s surreal. He’s so loved,” Danielle said.
For the Cornetts, that affection has become one of the most meaningful parts of the experience. Horse racing can be an unpredictable and unforgiving sport, and it takes commitment to stay invested in a horse through the uncertainty. White Abarrio has justified that faith with performances that have repeatedly exceeded expectations. By dispelling misconceptions about size, pedigree, and age, White Abarrio has rewarded his believers with one of the most compelling careers in modern racing.
“He is the kind of horse that changes horse racing,” Danielle said.

“He’s really smart,” Danielle said. “He knows when he wins.”
For Danielle Cornett and her family, that has been the real prize all along. The wins matter, of course. So do the purses, the headlines, and the prestige.
