Anyone living in Flower Mound – perhaps in much of North Texas – has heard of Jesse James Leyva and the amazing work he has accomplished changing peoples’ lives for the better. As founder of Jesse James Fit and Outlaw Fitcamp, Jesse has turned his own dedication to health and fitness into an ardent passion for helping others achieve their personal goals and improve their quality of life.
As the name implies, Outlaw breaks the laws of conventional fitness with compartmentalized workouts in a group fitness environment. Their ultimate goal is changing you for the better from when you first walked in the door, through personal growth, weight loss, fitness culture, and mindset. Jesse and his talented team have created a style of training that fits within a 30-minute complete workout. Unlike big-box fitness centers holding classes jammed with 24 people or more, Outlaw caps classes to 12. Each member receives personalized attention and guidance from a professional trainer while sharing an encouraging team experience. Their philosophy is based on progress, not perfection. Furthermore, Jesse takes a family-centered approach to working out, which is why there is no charge for a spouse (partner) to work out simultaneously with a member during all personal training appointments.
“Family support can make all the difference,” Jesse said. “Working out together and practicing a healthier lifestyle while encouraging each other builds a stronger bond.”
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck last year, all gyms were shut down for at least nine weeks. “Opening up ‘as normal’ wouldn’t work for a health and fitness facility,” Jesse stated. It didn’t even cross his mind to give up and remain closed, leaving his members to simply wait at home. After much thought and planning, Jesse embarked on a hyper-aggressive plan to comply with the COVID-19 restrictions imposed on his business.
“We have always maintained the highest sanitation protocols,” Jesse explained. “But with the pandemic, we have quadrupled our sanitation processes.” Then, after weeks of drafting a new layout, Jesse visited the Little Elm location, moved machines around the space for safe distancing, and essentially redesigned the entire gym. He created individual 7’x11’ jail cells for safe distancing and compartmentalized them to prevent cross-contamination. Everyone – managers, franchisees, and instructors alike — loved the new model. In the span of 8 to 14 days, Jesse and his team ordered equipment, then visited all locations to deconstruct and reconstruct the new layout. All facilities reopened to a beautiful, sleek new look that was 100% safe and COVID-19 compliant.
“Positive reaction to the new, now permanent, design model has been off the hook,” Jesse stated with pride. “The changes added five more minutes to the workout routine, minimizing transitions and water breaks.” A grateful Jesse reflects, “I can’t believe how blessed we are to have so many loyal members who remained patient throughout this past year.”
Jesse is also passionate about having created an enterprise for fitness professionals to grow their careers in the industry. Outlaw Fitcamp franchises expand the client reach to increased numbers of people whose lives and health can be greatly enriched. “The franchise is stronger than ever, and we’re experiencing incredible growth,” Jesse said.
“We want to grow in Texas, so we’re offering great incentives for franchises opening throughout the state.”
Adding to the excitement is important news for veteran-owned franchises. “In appreciation for their service to our country, we’re working with a foundation that helps place vets into Outlaw franchises once they leave the military,” Jesse announced. “We are looking to launch the program going into 2022.”
All of these positive initiatives that define Jesse James Fit and Outlaw Fitcamp are simply Jesse James Leyva’s way of giving back. “Fourteen years ago, I discovered why I love what I do and why I was meant for this work. I’m not here to help people win trophies. I’m here to change lives,” Jesse explained. No small task, Jesse has had the support of others to turn his mission into reality. “I owe endless thanks to my wife, Tiffany, and friend, Kay Simms, who also happens to be my business partners, along with my gratitude to our investors, franchise partners, and elite trainers.”
