The Importance of a Great Dental Team

I grew up in an agricultural town to an agricultural family. One of our family traditions involved making our own linked sausage. We would work from beginning to end including seasoning, preparing, and ultimately linking the sausages. A process like this required cohesive work and coordination because it could easily fall apart since everyone knew the product was only as strong as the weakest link.

Now, that may not be my wurst joke, but in all seriousness, when it comes to dental care, quality dental care is not possible without a quality dental team.  When it comes to oral care, it may often go unnoticed, but the team working behind the scenes is more crucial than you may think.

Oftentimes, patients choose their dental office solely based on the dentists, which is itself a crucial decision, but as is anything of importance, a job well done takes teamwork. Behind the scenes, a good dental team creates a seamless experience from the initial call to the end of the appointment.

The dental team can be broken down to clinical and non-clinical team. Non-clinical teams include insurance coordinators, treatment coordinators, dental accountants, and administrators. They work to help set appointments, verify insurance, manage dental claims, ensure proper paperwork filing, and document treatment needed and completed.

The clinical side of dental care includes your hygienist who is involved in cleaning your teeth and documenting your overall oral health. A consistent relationship with your hygienist will help ensure your individual oral health needs are met. In addition to hygienists, dental assistants are available to create safe, comfortable and expedient appointments through set up, sterilization, and of course, getting to know you as a patient.

With the great help of the dental team, your dentist is prepared to provide you with the upmost quality care without a hitch. So, make sure to give your gratitude to those unsung heroes of dental care.

Happy smiling!
