Technology in Dentistry

Dental Depot

Dentistry is an ever-evolving field, and professionals in our industry often have to adapt to new technologies. Every change and every new technology helps us to better serve our patients and help them achieve the smile they’ve always wanted. From online scheduling, to intraoral scanners, to 3D printing, let’s learn about some of the new technologies and products that help our Dental Depot dentists keep your smiles shining bright.

iTero Element 2 Scanner

What if we told you that you could see what your new smile will look like before you even start orthodontic treatment? With the iTero Element 2 Scanner, you can! The iTero Element 2 Scanner uses a wand that emits a radiation-free laser that is scanned across your mouth. The wand takes photos of your teeth to create a 3D impression that will be displayed almost immediately on the machine’s screen. This is the quickest and most accurate way to create a precise rendering of your smile, and it practically replaces the need for a clay mold. The rendering is then used to create Invisalign trays, retainers, and mouth guards.

New online scheduling option

Soon Dental Depot will be releasing a new online scheduling option! This will allow patients to schedule an appointment with the doctor of their choice and at the location of their choice!

Cone-Beam Computed Tomography

Cone-beam computed tomography, or CBCT, is a type of advanced imaging technology used in dentistry. This machine rotates around your head and captures 3D photos from a variety of angles of a patient’s teeth, gums, nerves, and bone structure in just a matter of seconds. This technology is incredibly useful for a wide range of dental procedures, including implant placement, oral surgery, and orthodontics. These images are reconstructed into a 3D image that the dentist can view and manipulate on a computer screen. CBCT scans are also associated with a lower radiation dose than traditional CT scans, making them a safer option for patients. Overall, CBCT technology has revolutionized the field of dentistry, providing dentists with highly detailed and accurate images that allow for better treatment planning and outcomes.

SprintRay 3D Printing

SprintRay is a dental technology company that has produced a 3D printing system for dental professionals. With this system, dental professionals can 3D print crowns, bridges, night guards, clear aligners, and much more before you even leave your appointment. First, the dentist will create a digital model of the patient’s teeth using the Itero Element 2 Scanner. The digital file is then uploaded to the printer’s software to prepare it for printing. The printer uses a high-resolution projector to selectively cure a liquid resin layer by layer, building the final 3D object. Once the printing is complete, the object is rinsed in isopropyl alcohol to remove any excess resin and is then cured under UV light to harden. The final product is a precise, high-quality dental model or restoration that can be used for a variety of dental procedures. In addition, this technology allows the dental professional to create a guide for surgery, which minimizes patient morbidity and increases accuracy. This generally makes surgery faster, more efficient, and less expensive for the patient. The entire process is quick, efficient, and produces incredibly accurate results, making it an asset for dental professionals looking to improve their workflow and patient outcomes.
