Stay Safe this Summer

Summer has arrived, bringing many opportunities for celebrations and outdoor activities across Denton County. First, congratulations to all the graduates in the area. Reaching this milestone reflects hard work and dedication, and we celebrate your achievements. As you enjoy this special time with friends and family, remember to do so responsibly. We wish you success in your future pursuits.

Looking ahead to a safe and enjoyable summer, residents are encouraged to stay vigilant on the roads. Children will be out playing, riding bikes, and soaking up the sunshine, so drivers should exercise caution.

Additionally, with increased outdoor activities, it’s important to stay cool, hydrated, and aware of the risks posed by extreme heat, which can cause heat exhaustion, heat stroke, or other heat-related illnesses.

Many families will be traveling during this season. Drivers should obey traffic laws, remain attentive, and drive safely to prevent accidents. Before leaving for vacation, consider precautions such as asking trusted neighbors or family members to watch your home, gathering your mail and packages, ensuring your doors and windows are secure, and using timers or motion-sensor lights to deter burglars. Keep valuables out of sight and avoid sharing your travel plans on social media to protect your belongings.

Most importantly, never drink and drive. Always designate a sober driver or call for a ride home. Impaired driving endangers your life and the safety of others sharing the road. By staying cautious and prepared, everyone can enjoy a summer filled with fun, relaxation, and safety.

The Denton County Sheriff’s Office wishes everyone a safe, healthy, and enjoyable summer.
