Rite Now Puts Family First

There was a time when the home services industry was driven by family-owned and operated companies. For instance, if your home’s AC unit suddenly stopped working on a hot summer day or your water heater went on the fritz, you knew you could call the same friendly people who had been serving the community for decades and know your family’s comfort was their priority.Families taking care of families felt right, and the name on the side of the truck exuded skill, trust, familiarity, and legacy.

Somewhere along the line, however, something began to change. Large corporate and private-equity-backed companies became the standard. Sure, they could deliver the same services on a bigger scale, but you have to admit, things have felt … different.

“We were part of that change, and it wasn’t what we thought it would be,” said Joe Strittmatter, a second-generation contractor whose then-41-year-old family business was sold in 2021. He has since opened Rite NOW AC, Heating & Plumbing with his wife, Tawnya, and son, Jared.

“People keep asking me why I’m back in it, and the short answer is that if you’re going to be in this line of work, you’ve got to have some sort of servant heart. I’m a fixer. I always have been. If you call me, I’ll come out and fix it. I missed that.”

He added, “If you do the right thing, everything else that’s good ultimately comes with it.”

That’s the Strittmatter family’s goal with Rite NOW — buck the trend of cookie-cutter corporate service and prove that families taking care of families not only still matters but can also thrive in today’s competitive landscape. From AC repairs and heating installations to plumbing emergencies, Rite NOW offers reliable solutions built to last—all under one roof.

Those services matter more now than ever, especially as winter ends and the sweltering summer heat begins. Most homeowners in and around Denton County face a cascade of issues rather than a seamless seasonal transition — leaky pipes, an AC unit that can’t handle even one more triple-digit day, one or two bedrooms that always feel 20 degrees hotter than the rest, busted garbage disposals, and, yes, even broken water heaters. But with Rite NOW, there’s always a fix.

That’s because their team has a combined 60 years of industry experience. Joe is following in the footsteps of his father, who started the family business back in 1980. He and Tawnya are now passing that same mindset, work ethic, and commitment to service on to their son, Jared.

Surrounding them is a growing team of friendly and licensed HVAC and plumbing technicians, and families choose them because they blend old-fashioned values with modern expertise — making comfort simple, affordable, and worry-free.

“The corporate companies promise the world, but at the end of the day, they have investors that they need to satisfy,” Joe said. “The next thing you know, unscrupulous things start to happen. They become more bottom-line focused than customer-focused. Service quality slips, and prices go up. They’re also not required to follow the same rules as publicly-traded companies. That’s not who we are. We are family-owned and operated in every sense of the word.

“We’re involved in the day-to-day, and that means better pricing, better quality, faster response times, etc. I tell Jared all the time, a business has to make money, but helping people is always our first responsibility. We believe in doing both the right way.”

Naturally, the real winners are the customers who continue trusting them and their rich legacy.

So, while the company name may be new, the family behind it is the reason everyone keeps calling them first.
