Rising to the Occasion: How Women of Argyle Is Rooted in Community, Connection, and Purpose

They say a rising tide lifts all boats, but in a town growing as quickly as Argyle, that progress can occasionally feel like we’re all getting in over our heads. In times like these, maintaining a sense of community can be a challenge. Fortunately, one local group is rising to that challenge.

For local resident and business owner, Aimee Buckert, this paradigm sparked an idea, one that has since grown into a powerful blend of relationship-building and philanthropy known as Women of Argyle. Founded with the goal of preserving Argyle’s close-knit, small-town feel, Women of Argyle is more than a social club. As a licensed nonprofit, the group is built upon a shared sense of connection, purpose, and a desire to give back to the community, particularly to the students who represent the town’s future.

Investing in the Community

To this aim, the organization created a scholarship program, designed to support graduating seniors from Argyle High School, Liberty Christian School, and homeschool students within Argyle ISD. Currently, Women of Argyle is funding four scholarships valued at $5,000 each. Three are set aside for general academic scholarships, with plans underway to dedicate one specifically for students pursuing trade or vocational careers, an intentional move to recognize that success after high school takes many forms.

“We don’t know why certain fields are often discounted, but we want to reward effort and drive no matter what career path students choose,” Aimee said. 

Applicants are evaluated through a thoughtful process that reflects the group’s values. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher, demonstrate a financial need, and show an ability to balance academics with extracurricular involvement. They are also asked to submit two essays, provide references, and highlight their volunteer work, ensuring that recipients are not only high achievers but also active contributors to their community.

“We’re really looking for well-rounded individuals who demonstrate grit and determination,” Aimee said. We want to assist students who are capable of juggling multiple activities.”

While scholarships are a cornerstone of the organization’s charitable efforts, Women of Argyle is equally focused on fostering the next generation of young innovators. The group is developing a youth entrepreneurship grant program aimed at providing financial support to aspiring business owners between the ages of 12 and 17. This initiative reflects the group’s commitment to investing in young people with ambition, creativity, and a desire to build something of their own.

Strengthening Community Ties

Beyond its philanthropic efforts, Women of Argyle is, at its core, a connection-driven community. Intended to welcome and support both longtime residents and newcomers, the group offers a space where women can build meaningful relationships while engaging in shared interests.

This sense of connection blossoms through monthly meetings that are equal parts social, educational, and impactful. Each gathering features a local business partner, an “impact speaker,” and a nonprofit partner, all centered around a unifying theme. Topics range from travel and fashion to health and wellness, offering members practical insights alongside opportunities to support local businesses and charitable causes.

To further strengthen relationships within the group, Women of Argyle introduced smaller “connection clubs,” intimate gatherings that bring members together around common interests. Whether it’s a book club, a mahjong group, or a foodie club exploring local restaurants, these gatherings create opportunities for deeper relationships to form, and new ideas are coming to fruition as time goes on.

In April, Women of Argyle paired their passion for pickleball with one of their fundraisers. Held at ATP Pickleball Club in Denton, the club staged their “Pickleball for a Purpose” tournament to raise money for their scholarship program. In this way, Women of Argyle not only gave back to the community, but they also had the time of their lives doing it. By design, every meeting attended, every event supported, and every connection made contributes to a larger mission, emulating the very spirit the group was created to preserve.

When neighbors come together and support one another, they ensure that even as their community grows, the bonds that keep them together remain stronger than ever. Through scholarships, mentorship, and meaningful connections, Women of Argyle is not only preserving the community today, they are shaping what it will look like for generations to come.
