Dr. Pierce’s passion for her career began during a medical school rotation in child psychiatry, where she discovered the power of a multidisciplinary approach in addressing mental health challenges. Inspired by the resilience of children and the rewarding nature of helping them navigate life’s obstacles, Dr. Pierce has dedicated her life to nurturing hope in the lives of her patients.
Surrounded by a supportive network of female peers in the medical and mental health professions, Dr. Pierce draws inspiration from the wisdom of other working moms. These women, along with her close friends, serve as role models, helping her maintain a healthy work-life balance and reminding her of the importance of prioritizing motherhood. Now, as her children have grown into young adults, Dr. Pierce prioritizes supporting other mothers facing similar challenges.
Time management can be challenging, but Dr. Pierce lives by the advice she shares with her patients’ moms: taking care of oneself is the best gift one can give their family. She values self-care through exercise, friendships, and therapy, emphasizing the importance of personal well-being in maintaining a fulfilling career and home life.

Pam Arrington is a remarkable professional, inspired by her mother’s strong work ethic and emphasis on family. She learned early in her career the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance, a value that has shaped her career journey. Among the women who have inspired Pam is her former supervisor, Dr. Telena Wright, whose exceptional leadership and compassion have left a lasting impact on her.
Pam embraces the benefits of remote work, allowing her to be present for her family and prioritize what matters most. The unwavering support of her mother and friends helps her maintain focus and balance amid life’s chaos. Plus, “Google calendar has been super helpful. I also find that writing things down in a journal helps me. I love routine, so blocking out my day by writing down what I need to do, what I hope to complete and what I need to plan for, helps,” says Pam.
Pam’s story reminds us that it’s okay to not be perfect, and embracing imperfection can lead to a more fulfilling life. Through multitasking, learning to say “no,” and prioritizing self-care, she continues to grow and succeed as a working mom and professional.

Fueled by a love of storytelling and an insatiable curiosity, Lisa’s journey took her from the newsroom to the world of unscripted television. Throughout her adventures, she was inspired by the stories of everyday people overcoming adversity.
Lisa has drawn strength from a collective of strong female friends and family members, each contributing to her drive and determination. Her transition to teaching at the university level reflects her passion for mentorship and shaping the next generation of journalists. Balancing work, family, and personal life can be challenging, especially with an autistic son who requires additional support. Lisa prioritizes her son’s needs while ensuring her college students receive the guidance they need.
Lisa relies on organization, prioritization, and learning to let go of the small stuff. By maintaining focus on what truly matters, she continues to make a difference in the world, one story and one student at a time. “I make lists, lots of lists! They are scattered all over the house and I’m a queen at prioritizing, and always tackle the fire first. The other stuff can wait. Being a mom of a special needs child has taught me to not sweat the small stuff as much. In the end, that does not matter!”
Jennifer Burton Executive Director | Northwest ISD Education Foundation
As the Executive Director of the Northwest ISD Education Foundation, Jennifer is responsible for overseeing the foundation’s efforts to support and enhance educational opportunities within NISD. Her leadership ensures that students have access to innovative programs, scholarships, and resources that help them achieve their full potential. Her efforts have been recognized with the “Heart of the Region” award from the Metroport Chamber, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to the community.
One of the biggest challenges she faces as a working mom is learning to say “no.” Jennifer recognizes the importance of asking for help and relying on her community to ensure everyone’s needs are met. Jennifer embraces the opportunity to teach her family about patience, forgiveness, and grace. Her strong support system helps her maintain balance as she navigates the demands of work and family life.
One strategy Jennifer finds particularly helpful is maintaining a classic “to-do list” using a legal pad and pen. This tried-and-true method keeps her organized and on top of her daily tasks.

Inspired by her aunt and the desire to help others feel confident in their smiles, Kristy Frerichs has thrived as a dental hygienist for 15 years. Her career choice allows her to make a difference in people’s lives while maintaining a flexible schedule that accommodates her family life.
Throughout her career, Kristy has met numerous women who have inspired her both professionally and personally. She cherishes these connections and the lessons they provide.
Balancing work, family, and personal life is a challenge that Kristy navigates with the support of her husband and friends. Together, they ensure their children’s school functions and extracurricular activities are covered, demonstrating their commitment to both family and personal growth.

Ashlee Kratohvil Full-Time College Student
After 13 years at Bank of America, Ashlee Kratohvil took a leap of faith and joined her family’s outdoor living company. This decision allowed her the flexibility and fulfillment she desired, especially as her family grew. It was during her time volunteering at a women’s pregnancy crisis center that Ashlee discovered her calling for social work.
Now back in school pursuing a degree in social work, Ashlee finds inspiration in the strong and purpose-driven women around her. Whether they are raising children, building careers, or simply navigating life’s challenges, these women embody the values of grace, faith, and compassion that Ashlee admires.
She has learned the importance of setting boundaries and being intentional with her time. By scheduling her days with purpose and making space for personal growth, Ashlee is better able to navigate the demands of her various roles. Utilizing her calendar as a tool has helped Ashlee stay focused and intentional. Along with the support of her husband and friends, Ashlee continues to embrace life’s transitions and grow, modeling the grace and purpose she values in others. As she walks this path, Ashlee reminds herself of the importance of balance and extends grace to herself along the way.
