Peace of Mind

GDS Focuses Wealth Management on the Person and the Purpose

In an industry often defined by numbers, charts, and transactions, GDS Wealth Management stands apart by focusing on something far more meaningful — people.

Founded by Glen Smith, GDS was built on the belief that financial planning should be personal, transparent, and rooted in genuine care for each client’s well-being.

For more than 20 years, Glen has called Flower Mound, Texas, home. It’s where he has raised his children, built lasting relationships, founded and grew GDS Wealth Management, and invested deeply in the community he serves. That long-standing connection to Flower Mound continues to shape the way Glen approaches leadership, service, and client relationships.

At GDS, wealth management isn’t just about growing assets — it’s about building relationships, listening deeply, and providing the kind of service the team would want for their own families.

“Our philosophy is simple,” said Glen Smith, Founder, Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Investment Officer of GDS Wealth Management. “We treat clients the way we would want to be treated — by listening first, acting with integrity, and always putting their best interests at the center of every decision.”

A Client-First Approach, by Design

From the very beginning, GDS was designed to be different. After years of experience at large financial institutions, Glen recognized that many clients were seeking more than generic advice or transactional relationships. They wanted clarity. They wanted trust. And they wanted to feel confident that their advisor truly understood their goals and concerns.

That realization led Glen to build GDS Wealth Management in Flower Mound with a clear purpose: to deliver personalized financial guidance while remaining deeply accessible and accountable to the individuals and families it serves.

GDS operates under a fee-only fiduciary standard, meaning the firm is paid directly by clients rather than through commissions, which is designed to help align the firm’s interests with those of its clients. Beyond that responsibility lies a commitment to provide thoughtful, personalized strategies that evolve as clients’ lives change.

This approach has resonated strongly. Today, GDS serves more than 1,000 client households nationwide and maintains a client retention rate of approximately 99%, which the firm believes reflects long-term client relationships, many of them within the local community.  The stated retention rate is calculated based on client relationships maintained over the most recent rolling annual period and is not indicative of future results. Client experiences may vary.

“We Feel Like Family”

For many clients, the GDS experience goes beyond financial outcomes — it’s about peace of mind and feeling supported. Sue and Michael, long-time clients of the firm, describe their relationship with GDS as something truly meaningful.

“What I appreciate about GDS is we feel like family,” they shared. “The advisors have a vested interest in your well-being, and the peace of mind we now have is paramount.”

That sense of connection is intentional. Glen and his team believe that when clients feel heard, respected, and understood, they are better positioned to make informed financial decisions.

Transparent Advice Builds Confidence

Another hallmark of GDS is transparency — particularly when it comes to fees, investment strategy, and long-term planning. Clients are encouraged to ask questions and gain a clear understanding of how their financial plan is structured and why certain recommendations are made.

Lisa, a GDS client, recalls that she initially had questions about fees before working with the firm.

“The fees I was initially concerned about became less significant as I better understood the value of the planning and guidance provided,” she said.

By prioritizing education and open communication, GDS helps clients feel confident and informed, rather than overwhelmed.

Reducing Stress, One Plan at a Time

For clients approaching or entering retirement, financial uncertainty can feel especially overwhelming. GDS focuses on helping families navigate this transition with clarity, structure, and guidance tailored to their individual circumstances.

Edward, another GDS client, shared how working with the firm impacted his outlook. “Working with GDS has taken a tremendous amount of weight off my wife’s and my shoulders, so we can feel more comfortable as we begin to enjoy our retirement,”
he said.

Leadership Rooted in Service — Locally and Beyond

At the heart of GDS Wealth Management is Glen’s commitment to service. Having spent more than two decades in Flower Mound, Glen is deeply invested not only in his clients’ success, but also in the strength of the broader community. He actively supports local nonprofits and community organizations, believing that success is measured by positive impact — both inside and outside the office.

Raised in a family deeply committed to helping others, Glen brings a servant-leadership mindset into every aspect of the firm. He believes excellence is a continual process.

“We’re always looking for ways to improve,” Glen said. “If we can serve better, communicate more clearly, or help a client feel more confident about their future, then we’ve done our job.”

That dedication has earned GDS recognition within both the community and the industry, including being named a DFW Favorites Award Winner for Best Wealth Management and Glen’s inclusion on the Forbes Best-in-State Wealth Advisors list. Glen emphasizes that such recognitions are secondary to the firm’s focus on client relationships. “The real reward is seeing
clients work toward their goals and live the lives they’ve planned for,”
Glen said.

A Relationship Built for the Long Term

As financial markets evolve and financial planning becomes increasingly complex, GDS Wealth Management remains committed to doing what it has always done best — serving clients with integrity, compassion, and excellence at every opportunity.

Whether helping families prepare for retirement, plan for education, or gain clarity around long-term financial decisions, GDS offers more than advice — it offers partnership, trust, and peace of mind, rooted in a community Glen has proudly called home for more than 20 years.
