Angel Koenig created Mindful Counseling in 2015 and was created out of a need she saw for quality mental health care in our community.

Angel comes from an extensive background of experience in this field, working with nonprofits, schools, and even residential addiction centers. “I found myself continually running into roadblocks in the industry. I became frustrated with the system. I wanted to provide quality care to our clients.”
Angel said.

Angel opened Mindful Counseling as a solo practice. “I noticed a sense of isolation and desired a community within my practice. As well, I kept seeing my waitlist grow, and knew a nice solution for both would be to bring on additional quality clinicians.” Angel said. 3 years ago, she converted Mindful Counseling to a group practice. They are currently home to 11 clinicians and are looking to grow that number. Angel prides herself on hiring people based on who they are as a person and the type of care that they can give their clients.

Mindful Counseling offers services to a wide variety of people. They have clinicians that work with ages 3 and up. As well, with Mindful Counseling being located in a city that houses 2 major universities, their clinicians are well-versed in working with the college age young adult population. Another population near and dear to Mindful Counseling is the LGBTQ community. “We are a LGBTQ+ affirming practice and are passionate about providing a safe, supportive environment for this population.” Angel said.

Mindful Counseling isn’t just for people with depression, anxiety or trauma. “Counseling can be a space for even the healthiest person looking for a safe, confidential environment to process ongoing stressors that life throws our way.” Angel said. They even offer counseling that specialize in couples counseling. There is a wide variety of services to choose from.

Most of the staff at Mindful Counseling are trained in EMDR which is a type of trauma therapy that focuses on the mind, and the body. “We are going towards more of a holistic practice. We want to focus on the mind body and spirit.” Angel said.

Angel said she strives to ensure meeting the community where they are. She wants Mindful Counseling to be here for the community and to support the community in their mental health needs.
