Making a Powerful Impact, One Check at a Time

In just 45 minutes, a group of women can change the future of a local nonprofit. That’s the heart of 100 Women Who Care – North Texas, a philanthropic collective built on simplicity, generosity, and the power of community.

Founded by Kristi Hassett in October 2019 and on the belief that small, committed actions — when multiplied — can lead to extraordinary results, the group gathers just three times a year to raise funds for North Texas nonprofits. Each member contributes $100 at every meeting, and the impact of those donations adds up fast. With more than 100 members, that means a local charity walks away with over $10,000 every meeting.

“It’s a simple model, but incredibly effective,” Kristi said. “You don’t have to attend galas or spend hours planning fundraisers. Just show up, hear about three amazing charities, vote, write a check, and you’ve made a real difference.”

Why?

“A friend from South Texas introduced me to a group she was part of — 100 Women Who Care — and encouraged me to start something similar in my own community,” Kristi said. “After researching her group and others like it, I realized just how simple yet powerful this model was. It felt like a no-brainer — a straightforward way to make a real difference.”

Today, the North Texas chapter is just shy of 100 members (and no, 100 isn’t a cap — it’s their goal and baseline).

“Since our first meeting in October 2019, we’ve donated a total of $160,700 to local nonprofits,” she added. “I’m incredibly proud of the collective impact our members have made and deeply grateful for the meaningful work being done by the organizations we support.”

How It Works

Before each meeting, three charities are randomly drawn from a vetted list of local organizations. Representatives from each group give a five-minute presentation to the members, sharing their mission, impact, and how the donation would be used. Then, in a private vote, members select the charity they feel is most deserving.

The charity with the most votes receives all the checks — no splitting, no strings. Members write personal $100 checks directly to the chosen nonprofit, ensuring transparency and impact. Even if a member’s preferred charity isn’t selected, their donation still goes to the winning organization as part of the collective gift.

Membership with Meaning

Membership in 100 Women Who Care – North Texas is open and growing. There’s no cap on how many can join, and guests are always welcome to attend a meeting before deciding to become a member.

Joining is easy. Fill out a membership form and commit to giving $100 at each of the three yearly meetings in February, June, and October. If a member can’t attend, they’re encouraged to send a check with another attendee or mail it afterward. This ensures the full impact of the group is felt, regardless of individual availability.

One of the most appreciated aspects of the group is its respect for members’ privacy. By using personal checks instead of electronic donations, members avoid being added to mailing lists or receiving future solicitations. Participating charities agree not to use donor information for any other purpose, which keeps the focus on giving, not marketing.

Community, Not Corporations

The group places a strong emphasis on supporting local causes. National nonprofits are not eligible unless they have a dedicated local branch. This ensures that 100% of the donations remain within North Texas, directly impacting the community members know and love.

Each year, the list of eligible charities is reviewed to ensure it reflects the current interests and values of the group. To nominate a new charity, members simply complete a form and submit it two weeks before the next meeting. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) certified and agree to certain guidelines, including not redistributing member contact info and accepting personal checks from multiple donors.

Once a charity wins, it becomes ineligible for the next three years. This rotation ensures a wide range of nonprofits receive support over time and that no single group dominates the giving cycle.

A Photo — and a Memory

Two weeks after each meeting, the group reconvenes to present the checks to the winning organization, often gathering for a group photo. It’s a celebration of what community can do when people come together with a shared purpose.

The stories that unfold at these meetings are often powerful — local charities share firsthand how funding will be used to provide meals, shelter, education, health services, and more. Many members say these short presentations are the most impactful part of their philanthropic experience, helping them connect deeply to causes they might never have known about otherwise.

Looking Ahead

With each meeting, the momentum builds. Members leave feeling fulfilled, knowing their $100 didn’t just make a donation — it helped shape a stronger, more compassionate North Texas. And while the group meets only a few times a year, the impact of their collective giving is felt all year long.
