Jeffrey Kajs Retires after 31 Years with Lewisville ISD
In a district as large and diverse as Lewisville ISD, it takes a special kind of leader to keep students at the center of every decision. For 31 years, that leader has been Jeffrey Kajs, a passionate, student-focused presence whose impact can be felt in classrooms, stadiums, auditoriums, and hallways across the community.
As he steps into retirement, Flower Mound, Lewisville, Highland Village and other surrounding towns are celebrating not just a career, but a legacy of service, support, and unwavering dedication to the children and families of Denton County.
A Storied Career
Over three decades, Mr. Kajs was called on to wear many hats in the district, going from teacher to principal to eventually his most recent role as Chief Student Services Officer. His long tenure allowed him to build relationships spanning generations. Colleagues often describe him as a collaborative problem solver deeply invested in the lives of students and families. Parents across the school district speak of his many contributions as a principal and now championing opportunities for their children at the district level.
Through every step of his journey, Mr. Kajs has held fast to his philosophy of meeting students where they’re at. As Chief Student Services Officer, Mr. Kajs oversees an incredibly broad and influential portfolio of programs, including athletics, fine arts, health services, student safety and security, student engagement, discipline, and several key student support functions.
In other words, if it affects students’ daily experience beyond the core curriculum, chances are it crossed his desk.
Parents often express how much they value the opportunities LISD students have to explore their interests, whether that means Friday night lights, marching band, theater, choir, or any of the district’s many extracurricular offerings. Under Mr. Kajs’ leadership, athletics and fine arts have continued to flourish, providing students with outlets for creativity, discipline, and teamwork. These programs not only build character, but they also create moments that students will never forget.
At the same time, Mr. Kajs has been a key figure in the district’s ongoing commitment to safety and student well-being. Overseeing health services and safety and security, he has helped guide efforts to keep campuses prepared, protected, and responsive to students’ physical and emotional needs. From emergency planning and campus procedures to everyday supports like health clinics and counseling referrals, his work has helped families feel confident that LISD schools are safe places for their children.
Recognized for Service & Advocacy
It is no surprise that his dedication has been recognized for his service. In 2017, Mr. Kajs was named Principal of the Year and Educator of the Year by the nonprofit organization, Communities In Schools of North Texas. He also received the Texas PTA Extended Service Award, which acknowledged him for his part in more than a quarter-century of advocacy for student health, education, and well-being.
Awards and personal accolades, however, are only part of the story. For Mr. Kajs , his success was a group effort.
“I never thought I had all the answers. I just try to take what’s given to me and multiply it. When you set up others around you to succeed, everyone succeeds.”
Beyond LISD, Mr. Kajs has been a familiar face and trusted partner in the community. For years, he has collaborated with local organizations, nonprofits, and health partners, building bridges between the district and community resources to provide vital services to families in need. He serves on the board for PediPlace, a local nonprofit that provides affordable healthcare for uninsured children.
As Jeffrey Kajs retires from Lewisville ISD, he leaves a legacy of strengthened programs, safer campuses, and a sense of gratitude from countless students, families, and faculty.
“The best part of life is when your family becomes your friends and your friends become your family,” he shared.
“I was able to fulfill my dreams and my passion serving in LISD, and I pray that each of you gets to experience what I was blessed to have for 31 years.”
