Soccer fans across North Texas are gearing up for one of the biggest sporting events in the world as the FIFA World Cup 2026 heads to North America. For the first time in history, the tournament is being co-hosted by three countries — the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Among the selected host cities, the Dallas-Fort Worth area is expected to take center stage, with matches being played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. (Because of FIFA sponsorship rules, it’s Dallas Stadium for the duration of the World Cup.)
The FIFA World Cup is far more than just a soccer tournament. Organized by Fédération Internationale de Football Association, it is the largest and most watched sporting event on the planet, bringing together the best men’s national teams from around the globe every four years. Since the inaugural tournament in 1930, the World Cup has become a celebration of culture, national pride, and international unity through sport. The only interruptions came during World War II, when the tournaments scheduled for 1942 and 1946 were canceled.
The 2026 tournament, running from June 11 to July 19, is expected to be historic for several reasons. One of the biggest questions for Denton County residents will be transportation to Arlington during tournament season. While traffic is expected to be intense around the stadium, there are convenient public transit options available using the Dallas Area Rapid Transit system.
Residents can begin by driving to nearby DART rail stations such as North Carrollton/Frankford Station or Trinity Mills Station. From there, travelers can ride the Green or Orange Line into downtown Dallas, then connect to Trinity Railway Express (TRE) service toward Arlington and Fort Worth. While Arlington does not currently have a direct rail station at AT&T Stadium, shuttle services and rideshare options are expected to be heavily utilized between TRE stops and the stadium district during World Cup events.
For many fans, simply being part of the atmosphere will be worth the trip. The World Cup creates memories that span generations, whether someone attends a match in person, gathers with friends at a local watch party, or simply enjoys the excitement spreading across the Metroplex.
