Renae Lorentz knew her late husband, Mike, was onto something special when they opened their first automotive repair shop 43 years ago. At the time, smaller, mom-and-pop shops were everywhere in Denton County, each built on honesty, knowledge, and integrity.
But as the years went by, many of those familiar neighborhood shops began to disappear — bought out, pushed out, or simply unable to keep up. To no one’s surprise, Lorentz Automotive stood strong.
Fast-forward to today, and Renae and Mike’s dream is still rooted in the family values that helped launch it — oh, and by the way, they are really good at fixing cars. Not only is the flagship store in Lewisville still open, but they’ve added family-owned locations in Denton and Ponder, in addition to also owning German Autowerks in Lewisville.
“It’s an amazing feeling to see it all grow, and it’s wonderful that I get to work with my family,” Renae said. She now runs the business with her son, Cole, and daughter-in-law, Claire. “We have generations of families bringing their cars to us.
“The families we serve are amazing, and the community we get to be a part of … I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
The Lorentz name in auto repair dates back further than Renae and Mike’s dream. Cole is a fourth-generation repair expert, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather (Junior Lorentz), and great-grandfather (Robert Cole).
