Not a day goes by when CR Plumbing owner Clayton Robinson isn’t asked about his young staff and how in the world he found so many of them. 

After all, the perception is that many plumbers seen driving around Denton County or stopping into homes to fix a leaky faucet, busted pipe, or bad water heater are veterans who’ve been in the industry for 20 years or more. It’s an older man’s game, for sure. 

Yet here comes the team at CR Plumbing to save another homeowner’s day — and almost half of them are under 26.

Not only are they young (many entered the trade at 18), but they already know the industry inside and out and can resolve any plumbing issue you can throw at them.

“It’s rare to have such a young team. I’ve got other plumbers asking me how I did it because they want and need younger plumbers, too,” said Clayton, who at 35, already has 11 years of experience. “We consider ourselves lucky to have such a great team — I’ll take apprentices as young as 18, and I look forward to teaching them everything we know.” 

He added, “We want to be known as the most knowledgeable plumbing company and determined leaders in getting more of the younger generation into the industry. We tell them we want them to stay, grow, thrive, and eventually retire with us.”

“We want to partner with local school districts and even the workforce commission to create more plumbing-specific programs,” Clayton said. “The reality is that there aren’t many trade classes that are specific to plumbing, and that’s a problem. If you want more young people in the industry, you must let them know they have options and give them the tools and resources to thrive and make a living.”

Hannah agreed, adding, “It’s hard to find a team like we have, and once you do, you don’t want to lose them. We love supporting employees who share our vision and morals.”

Four years into creating their dream business, the Robinsons are as hands-on as they’ve always been in what has become a well-oiled machine from top to bottom. In fact, Hannah recently completed her MBA while finding crafty ways to infuse various policies and procedures into their business, which she has carried over from her 12-year career as a registered nurse.
