Denton County: Focused on the Future

With just over 1.069 million people and almost 90 people moving in each day, Denton County remains focused on the important issues of economic development, transportation, public safety, and more to ensure the best use of taxpayer dollars while providing quality of life.
Our fast-growing population demands that we continue to plan, not months but years in advance, to accommodate the tens of thousands of newcomers choosing to move here every single year.

In 2024, we added an estimated 31,635 to our population, the fourth highest among 16 North Central Texas counties. The top three were Collin, Dallas, and Tarrant.
In the past year, we’ve brought more than $2 billion in major investments and more than 3,000 jobs into the county. With plentiful housing stock, an educated civilian workforce, and a transportation system that keeps commutes under 30 minutes, we offer a quality of life that few can match

Funds from a recent $650 million transportation bond package continue to lay the groundwork for improvements along interstates 35W and 35E – two major transportation and development corridors in our region – as well as helping our communities with infrastructure costs to support their transportation initiatives.

Court has made a concerted effort in recent years to bolster our law enforcement for public safety and plan for future growth with our upcoming Denton County Civil Courts Building while maintaining a conservative approach in our budgeting practices.

In fact, S&P Global Ratings in late May once again reaffirmed our AAA long-term rating on limited-tax debt outstanding, indicating the stable outlook reflects that we maintain a favorable reserve position, underpinned by strong tax base growth and our historical use of conversative budgeting practices.

We do this while also keeping our tax rate the lowest it has been since 1986 – 40 years ago. As we delve into our budget process for Fiscal Year 2027, a key factor we consider is to continue our momentum while keeping taxpayers top of mind.

Paying Tribute to Our Dads

Father’s Day is June 21, and it is the perfect time to pay tribute to the men in our lives who have given us guidance and demonstrated daily what it takes to be supportive and strong.
My father, Sidney Eads, is a perfect example of someone who quietly stands strong on what he believes while supporting us in all that we do. I’m fortunate to have a dad like him, one who – to this day – will go out of his way to help someone or make them smile. Happy Father’s Day, Dad, and to all the fathers out there.
