Denton County Deputies Honored with Lifesaving Award
The Denton County Sheriff’s Office proudly recognizes Deputies Gerrand Lockhart, Alan Henry, Ian Concepcion-Marquez, Shannon Roach, Tommy Cowan, Joseph Gilbert, and Sergeant Karisa Flowers for their extraordinary actions during a critical medical emergency that resulted in the successful rescue of a citizen’s life.
On the morning of March 9, 2026, while assigned to the Denton County Main Courthouse, the deputies were alerted to a citizen who had suddenly collapsed in the courthouse lobby. Upon arrival, they found the individual unresponsive, not breathing, and in immediate need of medical attention.
Without hesitation, the deputies quickly assessed the situation and began lifesaving measures. Working together as a coordinated team, they initiated CPR and deployed an automated external defibrillator (AED) in an effort to restore the individual’s heartbeat. Their training, teamwork, and calm response under pressure ensured that lifesaving care continued uninterrupted until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene.
Because of their swift and decisive actions, the citizen regained a pulse and resumed breathing before being transported to a local hospital for further treatment. Their immediate intervention proved to be the critical factor in preserving the individual’s life during those crucial first moments of the emergency.
Incidents such as these underscore the importance of continual training and preparedness. While deputies are entrusted with protecting the public from crime, they are also called upon to respond to life-threatening medical emergencies where every second matters. The actions demonstrated by these deputies exemplify the highest standards of public service, professionalism, and compassion.
In recognition of their exceptional performance, Deputies Lockhart, Henry, Concepcion-Marquez, Roach, Cowan, Gilbert, and Sergeant Flowers were presented with the Lifesaving Award. This honor is reserved for employees whose prompt actions and sound judgment directly contribute to preserving human life.
