Davis Red Barn Ranch

There’s nothing more rewarding than knowing that you’ve helped better the life of someone else, especially when that life that has been made better is one of a child. No one understands that better than Amy Davis, owner of Davis Red Barn Ranch in Haslet. It’s one of the many things that make Davis Red Barn Ranch so uniquely special. With every child that they help to grow and flourish, they are helping to make the world a better place for generations to come.
Amy had previously worked as a teacher for 9 years and has always had a passion for both small kids as well as animals. “I would bring my small pig to school with me and I would see the amazing improvement the students would have by just having this small animal in the classroom with them,” Amy recalled.
Unfortunately, Amy was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and found herself having extreme difficulty in a school environment. “It was hard to walk through the halls. I was going to need accommodations. I finally realized that I wasn’t going to be able to go back to the classroom,” Amy said. “I also didn’t want to apply for disability. What if they came out with a cure for this? I wouldn’t be able to go back to the classroom, and that’s what I would want to do.” Amy quickly came to the realization that having a disability doesn’t mean you can’t, it just might mean that you need to do something different.
The dream of Davis Red Barn Ranch came to life when a couple of parents at Amy’s school asked her to tutor their kids in reading. Amy took her passion for teaching empathy to students through caring for animals and educating young students and combined them both to create this amazing program.
Davis Red Barn Ranch provides young children and the young at heart the opportunity to swim in their in-ground swimming pool, receive homework and tutoring support, sewing lessons, and foundational farm animal lessons with over 12 different species that the Davis Red Barn Ranch is home to.
Since its opening last summer, Amy has been able to see amazing growth with the kids. “I’ve seen a girl that has apraxia of speech that completely opened up the second she touched a horse,” Amy recalled.
Working with these animals has opened up unspoken communication skills with these children. These kids are learning to communicate with animals in a way that only animals can. “It’s given character building,” Amy added. “They’re learning to be understanding with each other. We’re helping to create empathetic human beings.”
Davis Red Barn Ranch is something truly unique and special that gives kids a different perspective. “These kids come and they’re learning, but they’re unaware that they’re learning because they’re having so much fun,” Amy said.
There really is no limit when it comes to the lengths that they will go to help these kids realize all that they are capable of and all that they can do on their own. Amy has taken her passion for serving others, her love for kids, and her desire to use animal care to better the lives of others and created something incredibly magical for our community. Davis Red Barn Ranch is making the world a better place one child at a time.
