Calgary is a fun, easy international travel destination and one of my favorites. 

Located in Alberta, Canada, just above Montana, this sophisticated western city has the majestic Rocky Mountains as its backdrop and Banff National Park nearby. It’s breathtakingly beautiful and offers a mix of modern city finesse, rugged natural beauty, and hospitality at its finest.

Calgary has a plethora of unexpected treasures, like its award-winning architecture and public art. It also boasts North America’s most extensive urban pathway network, offering numerous options for navigating the area. This city is spotless, safe, and walkable.

The exploding culinary scene in Calgary is not to be missed. We tasted the best local flavors from celebrity chefs – every meal and cocktail was outstanding. Calgary also has many excellent accommodations in and around the city limits. The Dorian Hotel is a great choice for a boutique-style hotel. But if you prefer luxurious hotels, the Fairmont Palliser is the place to be.

This luxurious, historic hotel first debuted in downtown Calgary in June 1914. The Palliser was built to accommodate Victorian-era tourists brought by the railroad and has welcomed guests for over 100 years. The Palliser’s plush accommodations, exceptional dining, and stellar service have earned it an impeccable reputation. 

Established in 1972, Caesar’s Steakhouse is a Calgary classic. It’s consistently a favorite of locals and visiting Texans. The highly-esteemed Alberta beef is prepared on an open-flame, cauldron-style grill located at the center of the dining area. The restaurant still uses the original secret, house-made steak spice and serves Canada’s favorite cocktail — the Caesar. This popular drink was invented here and might just be my new favorite.

Experience the art of boot-making with an exclusive immersive tour. Learn the 240 steps of the “old-world boot making” in downtown Calgary. Founded in 1978, the Alberta Boot Company hand-makes premium western work boots and everyday footwear. It is a rite of passage in Calgary to custom order your Alberta boots. You can even personalize them and be part of Western fashion and culture.

Calgary is the perfect vacation destination. According to traveler reviews, it is known as the ‘friendliest place on earth.’ The signature Calgary White Hat symbolizes warm hospitality, and as I have personally experienced, it speaks volumes about how visitors feel about this city. I have a Calgary White Hat, and I will always cherish my hat and my time in Calgary.
