Brahmas Bring Texas Heat to Quebec

Chelsea James, proud parent of Texas Brahmas hockey player Beckett James, recently had the privilege of witnessing the young athlete participate in the esteemed Pee-Wee Quebec hockey tournament.  The Texas Brahmas 12–and-under Pee-Wee team was among the select few from Texas ever to participate in this extraordinary event, joining 124 other exceptional teams from around the globe.

For two exhilarating weeks, the Texas Brahmas showcased their skills in Quebec City, battling against various teams from Canada, the northeastern United States, and even Hong Kong. The competition was intense, but the dedicated players rose to the challenge, managing to secure an impressive three victories and a top eight finish in their bracket.

While the main focus was hockey, the young athletes also enjoyed exploring the beauty and culture of Quebec City. From the thrill of snow tubing at a water park to marveling at the enchanting Hotel de Glace, an entire hotel made of ice, they shared experiences that strengthened their bond as a team.

Despite the biting -27 wind chill, Beckett and his teammates were determined to partake in a memorable pond hockey game, demonstrating their unwavering passion for the sport. Their camaraderie and determination truly embody the spirit of the Texas Brahmas.

One of the most unique aspects of the tournament, according to Chelsea, was the tradition of pin trading. Each team brought two styles of their team pins to exchange with players from different countries, creating lasting memories and fostering a sense of unity among participants. The children returned home with a cherished collection of pins from teams around the world.

The journey to Quebec was the culmination of months of tireless effort from the team, parents, and the Texas Brahmas organization. Through numerous fundraising initiatives and meticulous planning, this dream opportunity became a reality for these  talented players.

Although the Texas Brahmas may not have returned home with the championship title, they proudly represented their home state and created lifelong memories. The young athletes have grown significantly from this experience, and they eagerly anticipate what the future holds for them and their team. After all, not every Texan can say they’ve triumphed over a Canadian hockey team on their own ice!
