Senior Care Feels Like Home at Teresa’s House
There’s no denying that Godwin Dixon and Teresa Whittington, RN, BSN, know the senior care industry inside and out. With a combined 76 years of experience working in and overseeing communities across the continuum of care, they knew what worked, what didn’t, and what seniors and their families truly needed.
Six years ago, they created Teresa’s House, first in McKinney and then in Argyle—bringing their premier approach to senior living to both communities.
“True quality senior care is not cheap, and most residents at Teresa’s House actually started elsewhere looking to save money,” Godwin said. “Once they experienced the problems that come with the industry standard, they quickly realized they needed better. Our beautiful homes, therapeutic design, delicious comfort food, wonderful activities, and licensed and certified staff are what make Teresa’s House the best.”
Most senior care communities are built around apartment-style layouts designed to maximize occupancy, with long hallways and crowded common areas. They also often operate under a traditional regulatory model without qualified staff, in which assisted living residents were expected to transition to a nursing home as their needs increased.
Today, many residents remain in assisted living or memory care for the rest of their lives. As their needs increase, most communities simply aren’t staffed or designed to provide the additional care they require.
Teresa’s House is different. Nurse-owned and operated, it offers high-quality, luxury assisted living and memory care in a warm, welcoming neighborhood where residents can keep feeling at home while receiving the support they need.
Every detail was designed with seniors in mind. Spacious private rooms feature large closets and the comforts of home, with full medical support available. Optional beds can be lowered to the ground for residents at risk of falls. Perhaps most distinctive is the Teresa’s House Air-Safe design: resident rooms share no AC ductwork, helping reduce the spread of illness, while UV lighting and air scrubbers continuously purify the air.
Life at Teresa’s House is also designed to be engaging and fun. Residents enjoy daily fitness and activities, family-style meals, cooking classes, games, bus trips, equine activities, and intergenerational programs with Liberty Christian and Argyle ISD students. A favorite gathering place is the activity center—half vintage kitchen and game area, half “mancave,” complete with a classic car and a sports bar-like atmosphere.
Rather than combining residents with dramatically different needs, four ranch-style homes cater to specific levels of care, including assisted living, early- to mid-stage memory care, and advanced care. As a resident’s needs change, there is a home within the community designed to support them.
Most importantly, Teresa’s House provides more hands-on support than many traditional senior living communities. Staffing is intentionally well above state requirements so residents receive personal attention as their needs change. A nurse is on-site 24/7, State-Certified Medication Aides administer medications, and State-Certified Nursing Assistants provide much of the daily care. Staffing ratios are as high as 1-3 in enhanced care and 1-5 in Assisted Living and Memory Care during waking hours, giving caregivers more time to know residents, recognize changes, support and respond when needed. The caliber and quantity of staff truly matter, and at Teresa’s House you have both.
“Everyone would love to stay at home as they age, but being home without friends isn’t good for you, and no one’s home was built for senior care,” Teresa said. “These are beautiful homes, with just enough friends to have fun, and we have thought of everything to give our families peace of mind. It’s about creating a sense of home, providing meaningful experiences, and surrounding residents with care and support so they can live comfortably, safely, and with dignity through every chapter of their lives.”
For older adults and families planning what comes next, Teresa’s House provides more than a place to live—it provides confidence that you or someone you love can continue to live safely, comfortably, and with dignity through every stage of aging.
Not just local ownership but nurse-owned and nurse-operated, with a commitment to being the best.
