2024 Nonprofit of the Year: Heart of the City Lewisville
We are incredibly fortunate to have many wonderful nonprofits in Denton County, each dedicated to serving our community with compassion and commitment.
Congratulations to Heart of the City Lewisville, who were named the 2024 Nonprofit of the Year at the 19th annual Unity Luncheon co-sponsored by the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce, the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Highland Village Business Association on July 29.
Heart of the City provides essential services like food, clothing, and life skills coaching across our region, making a profound difference in the lives of many. Launched in 2019 by Pastor Robert Veal, Heart of the City initially served 70 families at a single location in Lewisville.
Today, the charitable organization operates a food pantry and offers free clothing and counseling to families in need, supporting over 600 impoverished families each week across five locations in Denton County, Dallas County, and Collin County. Heart of the City Lewisville is dedicated to giving disadvantaged families in our community hope and opportunities for a new beginning.
Also recognized was the Children’s Advocacy Center for North Texas, which received the first-ever Legacy Award for their work to bring hope and healing to every child victimized by abuse.
Winning The Fight (WTF) was honored with the new Founders Tribute award for their dedication to providing education, support, and resources to families suffering from addiction. The non-profit was founded by Kathy O’Keefe after she and her husband lost her son to an accidental drug overdose. Though Kathy passed in 2024, Winning The Fight continues to provide assistance to the families in her honor.
“We are so fortunate to have these and so many other wonderful non-profits in Denton County who serve our residents in need,” wrote Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell on social media.
“It is always so uplifting to attend this annual event and hear about the many great things these organizations do for our residents.”
Denton County Judge Andy Eads wrote, “It was good to see the crowd of non-profit organizations, business leaders, officials and members of local Rotary Clubs who help cover the costs for non-profits to attend and bring information tables to the event.”
We say congratulations and a heartfelt thank you to all the nonprofits who enrich the lives of so many in Denton County each year. Bless you.
