10 Hot Local Places to Celebrate Mother’s Day

Angie Cox insists that she won’t be taking any personal vacations this summer. No last-minute trips to the beach with her husband, Stewart. No planned getaways to Disney World or another fun-filled destination spot with her kids and grandchildren. Zero. Zilch. Nada.  That said, she won’t be spending the next few months entirely behind her desk at Allegiance Title in Flower Mound, either. Angie, a Lewisville Noon Rotary club member, president, and board of director for more than 28 years, is the new Rotary District 5790 Governor for the 2026-2027 Rotary year. That leadership role, which starts July 1, took three years of preparation and will require plenty of time on the road visiting and collaborating with 62 clubs across the district. And that’s for starters. She can’t think of a better way to spend her time than working alongside fellow Rotarians to help clubs grow and support meaningful service projects.  “My vacation time will be spent with the Rotary, and I couldn’t be happier to do it,” Angie said. “Our district is massive, it stretches up to the Red River and extends into places like Abilene, Wichita Falls, Haslet, Breckenridge, Little Elm, and, of course, Lewisville. So, yes, it’s a wonderful opportunity to visit with so many good people in person, support our clubs, and help Rotarians continue making a difference in their communities.” She added, “I don’t have time to slow down. I’ll do plenty of that when I’m old—many, many, many years from now.” Anyone who knows Angie will tell you she loves serving her community and making a positive impact wherever she goes. That said, she isn’t the type to seek out the spotlight. As much as she’s selflessly volunteered her time over the years, either as the leader in front or as a worker bee somewhere in the crowd, she prefers to blend in with everyone else.  This latest role will place her in more of a leadership and mentoring position than ever before. That said, she said she isn’t doing this role alone. She will use the opportunity to work with the leadership team to help grow and educate others about Rotary. From working one-on-one with individual club presidents to mentoring and training entire clubs and pushing new global initiatives, Angie will spend the next year working closely with clubs across the district as a resource, mentor, and advocate for Rotary’s mission. “I realized this was something I wanted to do about five years ago,” Angie said. “It certainly wasn’t on my radar, but I’ve seen and watched so many other selfless Rotarians, and knowing how much of a difference we make across the world, this felt like the right decision. Rotary isn’t just about your own community … it’s about working together to make a broader impact.”  Angie said she and her leadership team will focus on four key initiatives this coming year. The first is a multi-year water project in Kenya, where they plan to provide clean water to over 15,000 people. The second is to tackle food insecurity in new and innovative ways at the local level, including working more closely with existing local food banks.  Also on their list of objectives is a wheelchair project in Costa Rica. The plan is to partner with the Costa Rica club and two others in the United States to provide over 250 wheelchairs to children and adults who otherwise wouldn’t have access to them. Lastly, she and the leadership team plan to coordinate a district-wide walk on Oct. 24 to promote polio awareness. “It sounds like a lot, but I have an amazing leadership team of over 50 people behind me,” Angie said. “You can’t do something like this without the right help around you. We have a real opportunity to help these projects make a lasting impact. I’m excited to work alongside so many dedicated Rotarians and continue growing awareness about what Rotary does in our communities and beyond.”
